Gary John Gresl

Gary John Gresl, a native of Manitowoc, has been featured in exhibitions throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest. He received numerous awards for his work, including multiple ‘best in show’ awards and jurors’ selections. He was a Kohler Arts and Industry artist in residence at the Kohler Center for the Arts, Sheboygan, and received a Mary Nohl Artist Fellowship and a 2009 Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Award.

He was the founder and former co-chair of the Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Awards, a three term president of Wisconsin Visual Artists, Inc., as well as one of the co-founders of the Milwaukee Visual Arts Roundtable. He received a Master’s degree from UW-Madison, had a career as an antique dealer and specialized in directions and techniques of assemblage sculpture.

Gresl donated one of his more significant sculptures to the Library. Giant Bone from Widow Fischer’s Quarry is displayed in Program Room B. Acquired in 2009.
