THE POSITION: We are looking for a dedicated professional with a welcoming personality to work at our busy Reference Desk, planning & conducting adult programs and instructive classes, assisting and instructing library patrons in the use of the online catalog, reference sources, websites, databases, computer programs, e-readers, and technology use.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Library Science or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills: professional public library experience in information sciences; knowledge of resources available from other libraries, the Library System, and throughout the state; understanding of public library policies; knowledge of trends in collection development; excellent oral and written communication; ability to analyze statistical data and evaluate programs, ability to work independently or as part of a dynamic team; ability to prioritize a varied workload.

Regular schedule includes weekdays, evenings, and weekend hours.

Part-Time Employment Opportunity – Library Page/Shelvers

LIBRARY PAGE/SHELVERS- CIRCULATION SERVICES

Part-time Positions Available: 10 hours per week and 20-23 hours per week

Energetic, reliable individual needed to shelve library materials. Other tasks may include: sorting and shelving magazines, checking in and straightening up newspapers, re-filing microfilm, emptying book returns, keeping the shelves in Dewey Decimal order, organizing books to be re-shelved, assisting with closing procedures, and check-in of materials as needed.

Schedule will include mornings, afternoons, evenings until 9:15 p.m., and weekends. Schedule flexibility is essential.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent or current enrollment in high school and 16 years of age; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills

  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system
  • Ability to follow instructions, multitask and prioritize workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers and the general public
  • Skills in organization and time management

The individual in this position:

  • Assists patrons of all ages in their use of the library at the first-floor Reference Desk.
  • Instructs patrons in the use of the online catalog, reference sources, websites, databases, computer programs, e-readers, and Library-owned equipment.
  • Researches and provides answers to general reference questions.
  • Assists patrons with locating and requesting materials through interlibrary loan.
  • Provides readers’ advisory services for patrons.
  • Produces copy and original cataloging for print, audio-visual and internet materials in the Library’s automated system and on OCLC.
  • Helps maintain and improve the CAFE shared database of library materials; verifies accuracy of information and updates as needed.
  • Assists the acquisitions staff in ensuring accurate and expeditious public access to materials.

The individual in this full-time position spends time each week in both Information Services and Technical Services. The number of hours in each department will vary depending on the workload in the respective departments. Regular schedule includes weekdays, evenings, and weekend hours.

Requirements:
