From March 7 to 15, Waukesha Public Library will be recording conversations to be preserved for generations to come. Bridges Library System, in collaboration with Waukesha Public Library, is partnering with StoryCorps, an oral history non-profit organization, to collect and preserve personal stories for the Library of Congress.
StoryCorps’ mission is to preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world. This oral history project teaches the value of listening and emphasizes the importance of everyone’s story. Last year, the Bridges Library System contributed more than 100 stories to the project.
To participate in the StoryCorps initiative, all you need is an appointment, a conversation partner, and a story. Recordings will be made in a private room by a trained librarian facilitator and will be limited to 40 minutes or less. Contributors can choose the topic of their conversation and will be given the choice to share their recording with the Library of Congress or to keep it private. Register by contacting Kelly Davis at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 262-524-3694. Registration is currently open.
