Power Failure

The Library is closed Wednesday July 12 due to a power failure. All programs are cancelled. Please check back tomorrow to see if the Library is open.

Thank you for your patience.

Telephones and Internet Access Down

Due to a break in fiber optic lines for the City, Waukesha Public Library as well as City of Waukesha, Waukesha County, and many Waukesha school districts are without Internet access. This also means that the Library does not have telephone service.

The library is still open and you can come in and browse our amazing collection of books, movies, and magazines. The online catalog is still running so you can access your account to search for material, renew items, and place items on hold.

The City reports that the fiber optic lines won’t be repaired until late this evening. This means we should be fully operational for Wednesday August 17.

Thank you for your patience.

Celebrate with Waukesha Public Library in April!

Stop in and pick up a butterfly cutout for our Libraries Transform display.

In 10 words or less, use the cutout to tell us:
•    How the library transformed your life,
•    What your library means to you, or
•    How you see the library transforming to meet changing needs.

Get or renew a library card in April (or bring a friend or family member to get a card) to get a free item from the Friends’ book sale.

Share your story about how libraries transform on Waukesha Public Library’s Facebook.

Welcome Jefferson County Libraries! Online Catalog Update December 2 – 10

Jefferson County Libraries are joining with Waukesha County Libraries to make a new library system called Bridges. The system will formally go live on January 1, 2016, but we are combining the catalogs of the Jefferson County Libraries with our catalogs this year.

From December 2-10, the Library’s catalog will be unavailable as we make these updates. During this time items will continue to be due but fines will not be charged.

You will be able to:

  • Visit the library during regular business hours
  • Check out all types of material, including e-materials
  • Use the library’s website and Internet access
  • Keep your position in holds queues

You will NOT be able to:

  • View the online catalog from home or inside the library
  • Login to your account
  • Renew materials
  • Pay fines/fees
  • Place holds

We look forward to providing you with this enhanced library experience.

Thanks for your patience!

More information about the catalog downtime can be found at the Bridges Library System page here.

Request for Proposal – RFID

The Board of Trustees at the Waukesha Public Library seeks written proposals for conversion of its collection to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).

The Library has more than 335,000 physical items in its collection which will be detailed in the Project Scope. The library currently uses barcode and electromagnetic security strips and requires conversion of its existing collection to RFID and application of RFID on future items as well.

This Request for Proposals consists of one scope that will be awarded to the successful bidder. The Library anticipates purchasing and beginning the conversion process from barcode to RFID by January 4th, 2016.

Due date for proposals: September 25th 4:00 PM CST

New Drive-Up Book Return

We have installed a new drive-up book return station! We apologize for any inconvenience as we complete the installation process, which will end in early September.

To use, simply press the blue button to open the door. Wait for the green light and place your first item on the belt. The light will turn red for a second. Once it turns green again, place your next item on the belt. Please put items one at a time on the belt, as the system sorts material as it accepts them through the intake.
